One of the owners had at one time been the Treasurer for the Queen….

  Nope! Not a bad guess though… George Vanderbilt’s daughter married a descendant of William Cecil, Lord Burleigh, who was Queen Elizabeth I’s chief advisor in the 16th Century. It was fun spotting a portrait of him in he house that no one seemed to know much of anything about!
